Personal injury claims can be very complex to value. Firstly, there are two aspects to every claim: General Damages and Special Damages.
General Damages is defined as a sum of money designed to compensate you for your actual pain and suffering, so basically this means the value of your actual physical and psychological injury. For example you might receive £4000 for a straightforward fracture to the wrist along with the “out of pocket expenses” described below. General damages are set at a low level in the UK and the bulk of damages that seriously injured bikers receive relate to financial losses which require expert advice to calculate.
Special Damages covers all other items which we can put an exact figure on. This part of your claim typically includes, damage to your motorbike, loss of insurance excess, damaged kit, loss of earnings, medical treatment costs and travel expenses. If you have suffered a serious injury we would need to look at future loss of earnings, care requirements, costs of surgery and pension losses.
If you have suffered multiple injuries, it is not simply a case of adding together how much each separate injury is worth. The process is more complex and once we receive a medical report, we will be able to provide you with a very detailed opinion on the valuation of your claim.
Below is a brief guide on how much some individual injuries are likely to be worth: |
